BEACHES
Between the mountains and the sea, the beach of Mazzaforno: a bay only three kilometres away from Cefalù
Mazzaforno is one of the seaside resorts of the Cefalù coastline, only 3 km away from the town.
Between the sea and the mountains, a sandy beach framed by rocks, the beach of Mazzaforno is like a small precious stone nestled in a diverse landscape, that leaves the tourist and the observer “merely” the wonders of nature.
Located only three kilometres from Cefalù, Mazzaforno is a seaside resort that gives its name to the seaside coves, to the sandy and rocky beaches and to the sea of emerald and turquoise colours. A stretch of coastline that can be easily reached from the trunk road SS113 heading towards Palermo and following the directions for Mazzaforno, by the gates of the old Norman town.
A backdrop to the beach and the sea, the landscape here boasts some truly stunning colours: from the shimmering green of the mountains to the bright colours of the stones, up to the gradient of the blue water that gets deeper and deeper, perfect for divers and snorkelers who want to explore the seabed.
Even though its breadth can’t be compared to the long beach of Cefalù, Mazzaforno is taken over by tourists who are hoping to relax and get a nice suntan. Small, but beautiful, the beach can be reached from two points – one is public, the other one is only accessible through a private road for those staying in the residence.
Once you get to your destination, you will discover that the beach looks like a mixture of sand, pebbles, and natural rocks smoothed out by the sea. A charming ensemble that satisfies every taste – there’s free space if you prefer lying on the sand or, alternatively, you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas from the nearby accommodation facilities.
Considered by the tourists one of the most beautiful beaches of Cefalù, Mazzaforno is clean and organised, thanks to the presence of lidos and bars, catering to those who want to relax on a sunbed and have a picnic on the beach, as well as to those who want to immerse themselves and enjoy the charming natural landscape.
Already amazed by the beauty of the beach, you will be even more astonished once you go through a slightly difficult path to reach the second beach: a hidden Cove considered “wilder” than the other beach, located on the other side of a high hill and adorned with rocks and cliffs. The difficulty in reaching it repays with the charm of the place: the cove is reserved, usually not visited by many even in the middle of the season, as welcoming, picturesque and enchanting as a small paradise on the sea.
Like many Sicilian beaches where the wild mountain with its untouched trees and plants meets the endless stretch of sea, the beach of Mazzaforno perfectly represents this diverse presence of nature. For this reason, in the heart of the hottest season, in July and August especially, it welcomes tourists and loyal visitors who see in Sicily a perfect destination that manages to satisfy everybody’s tastes: a dip in the sea with a view of the mountains.
