Tenuta San Giaime

In Gangi, in the heart of the Sicilian region of Madonie, at 1,000 metres above sea level, from a cosmopolitan vine that is considered to be almost indigenous, the “Tenuta San Giaime” a Syrah of the mountains, was born.
Production of the nectar of Bacchus at about 800 metres above sea level has been made possible in the heights of the Madonie region, in Gangi, thanks to the San Giaime Estate and the Cicco family. Having undertaken the massive project of improving the land, in fact, that of Gangi, voted the most beautiful village in Italy in 2014, the production of wine-making began with the enhancement of traditional Sicilian vines being cut with other new grapes that were able to acclimatize successfully.
The only real winery in the area, the San Giaime Estate, thanks to optimal climatic conditions with significant variations in temperature between night and day and excellent soil stratification, has succeeded in achieving a niche product with just 2,000 bottles being produced each year. The wines from the cellars of Salvatore Cicco are little gems as a result of his great passion for wines, something that is shared with his son, Alessio, and the experience of his brother-in-law, Franco Mastrandrea all of which have enabled this vineyard to establish an excellent reputation in an increasingly broad global market in just a few years.
The marked difference in the temperature range between night and day has made it possible to cultivate and then harvest the Grillo white grapes at the end of August and that of the Syrah grapes in the first 10 days of September. The harvesting which is done strictly by hand, ensures careful selection of the grapes and guarantees a higher quality end-product. Thanks to some old Syrah vines that were cultivated in the past on this family farm that covered some twenty-five hectares of clay soil, a nectar that has been highly praised by experts in the field has emerged.
